The Heff Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I spy an updated Spectrum theme in the client area. 1
Ehren Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 I spy an updated Spectrum theme in the client area. You are way too fast. Spectrum is now available for IPS.Suite 4.1.x. All other themes have also been updated with bug fixes from the client category. These continual "bug-fix releases" will start to slow down once fewer bugs are reported (which has already started to happen). I figured I'd update the themes daily with the most recent code, giving you all the option to upgrade if you want. It'll eventually get to the stage where the themes are only updated whenever IPS.Suite is upgraded, since they will be considered bug-free. 2
The Heff Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 You are way too fast. I had it downloaded and installed on a dev board before you made this post. 2
Ehren Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 SO any idea of what I have to do ? Can you elaborate? If it's an issue with a theme, please use the Customer support category since this is an announcement topic only.
Ehren Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 What about anyone with 10 themes and copyright removal? lol Can I has fancy badge?? 3 year anniversary Donator badges added 2
Empire Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hello Ehren, i have bought 3 themes from you, please don't forget to upgrade Dimension! Thanks bad enough having to have one to pick. Spent weeks picking a theme, and it's uniform that picked me 1
The Heff Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 bad enough having to have one to pick. Spent weeks picking a theme, and it's uniform that picked me Sorry, it just popped into my head. I'm now planning to upgrade my other forum so a purchase of Animate will be on the cards very soon. 3
ShawnMR Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 There are bugs for developers which require significant work to fix on each upgrade (I've recoded Uniform and Villain from scratch twice already). If you upgrade to 4.1.2, you'll just need to reinstall the theme. Ahh, I see. So... if we upgrade to 4.1.2, I need to download the current version of Chameleon again and reinstall it... but will we lose all the custom edits we've made or do those stick? This feels like a very newb question, I've just not reinstalled a theme so soon after customizing it before.

There will be a constant stream of updates over the next couple of weeks while I fix bugs (which are common with major releases such as 4.1). I suggest you install a fresh copy each time (instead of using the theme upgrade method). You will need to copy your custom edits over to the fresh version each time. 1

I was going to upgrade this weekend but I guess I'll hold off for a while then. 1

The Heff Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 How do the quick fire updates from IPS affect you Ehren? I can't imagine they help.
Prostheta Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 We've started to use a changelog for anything we alter in the main codebase. Ehren's differentiation of custom.css from the main framework in the last major update made this immensely easier. I suggest documenting every step you make from the path of CodeBasePurity so you can simply apply them to the next release of the code in its true form. Yeah, I'm sort of getting sick of this constant update thing with IPS. We're sticking to 4.0.x until everybody else has fallen foul of all the new broken stuff. That's no option for Ehren of course, however I think it is good practice not to be an early upgrader if you're relying on 100% compatibility with your third-party additions/skins. You just don't have any recourse if you're upgrading as soon as you see it. Security updates are one thing, but framework and basic stability are not something you want to live with "till they fix it". 2
Empire Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I always wait for a couple of hours or up to a day in fact before I upgrade. So if there is any problems I would know from the bug reports of death. When there is a update, turns out that something else breaks and I'm having to repeat my website again to fix it. Sometimes upgrade from IPS breaks the theme.
Ehren Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 How do the quick fire updates from IPS affect you Ehren? I can't imagine they help. They're not terrible, but some updates have certainly caused more work than I'd hoped for.
Koby Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Still patiently waiting for Brave, Carbon, and Source!
ShawnMR Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I might have overlooked the answer to this, but how current is Chameleon to IPS right now? I saw Invision released yet another update yesterday, which we're begrudgingly upgrading to since they're saying this one does address security issues.
Prostheta Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 That's very sporting of you to say so, given that minor updates can easily cause you days of work and mountains of unnecessary customer support/damage control. 1

From 4.1.3 through 4.1.3.2 there was no theme changes. From 4.1.2 to 4.1.3 there were some added templates and a few changes. From 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 there was 3 changes. 1
