How to install and upgrade themes

Recommended Posts

  • 8 months later...

Hi again Ehren,

Sorry I have a question.

Now I want to update the Invision Community v4.3.5 to actual one 4.4.2

The theme version is;

/* 4.3 theme by ipsfocus.com */
:root{
    --ipsfocus-version: '4.3.4';
    --ipsfocus-date: 'July 7, 2018';
}

What I have to do, install as fresh version or simply install the new theme updating the patent theme?

Many thanks!

There are reverted template files in the latest update which aren't applied if the "Upload new version" method is used.

I'd suggest installing a fresh version if possible. If not, the instructions for reverting the template files can be found in the News topic.

Ah ok Ehren i will do a fresh install,

I see it says something related to is prepared for auto updates so the question is;

What is now better in this new scenario a normal install method or parent child?

Thanks a lot!

Parent/child setups are always best.

Ok thanks Ehren,

And after this update the next ones will be done automatically without doing nothing?

It depends if IPS adjusts the template files :) But the latest update will be more upgrade-friendly than earlier versions since it has less modified template files.

Hi, 2 questions

1) Is this solution still valid? I remember a while ago not advising you for problems encountered with IPS changes ...

2) For the transition from Chameleon Dark 4.4.9.2 to 4.4.10, is it possible to simply update the theme or do you recommend a new installation?

I use a parent/child setup on my demo board, however I manually upgrade my themes so I'm not sure what method is actually best if you're using the "Upload new version" feature..

I'd suggest trying to use the Upload New Version feature to see if it works correctly. When given the option, just make sure you use the "new" code instead of the old code.

Hello,

Are you using Invision Community?

Hi @Nithin, click on (where arrow is pointing in your image below) > Account > AdminCP. once you have logged into your admin panel, click on the paint brush (last icon on the left hand side), under appearance select themes > over to the right you will see a orange button that says +Add Theme > select upload theme > then find the theme XML file on you PC.

from there, the rest should be self explanatory.

No,that is not my site.I need to create a site like that on this forum site

So i asked how to do in the forum site

Ok, I see. if that is the case, if you aren't familiar with how it is done, I would recommend you getting familiar with the demo from the official IPB site. they have many options that you can choose from such as self hosting etc.
