I've accidentally deleted the database that my forum was on :o .

I am a lazy person who never does backups, so all the data is completely lost. I was wondering if there was a way to have the server automatically make backups for the database that my forum is on and then maybe email the backup file to me.

I found the following tool at invisionize

http://tools.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/6204

bad thing is that it's only <= 2.0.X :(

Was wondering if you guys could possibly help me out with a version for 2.1.X, maybe point me in the right direction :unsure:

also, a quote from someone in the topic of the afore mentioned tool

ok, here are my conclusions :

first of all, the password input routine is wrong... there is not even an ELSE there it justs ends vionently the script... PLUS, it is NOT working at all

i deleted the part of the pass input to test the program as is

it works. zips SQL to GZ... inflating etc etc BUT it has a limit of 8072 KBYTES !

This means it STOPS with a timeout after a while...

this is useless for me ( my SQL is 40MB - zipped )

As far as I know, your host does not take backups of your databases and or files. It is gone. You may email them to be sure, but 98% will not do backups for you. Sorry, i did that once myself :( Good luck.

sorry, it seems i wasn't very clear.

I know that the info is gone. I've already started building it back up.

I am wondering if there is a tool/script that can take a backup of the forum database, and email it to me every, say..., 3 days.

Yes. You can use cronjobs. These are used to complete a certain task every set amount of time. Im not very familiar with them at all, but you can try googleing it. Good luck :)
