Ehren
Hey guys, Due to the large number of bots signing up, I have decided to validate all accounts manually. This will save us from seeing all of the spam posts which have nothing to do with this site Sorry for the inconvenience to all new members, but hopefully this will be for the best! MrM
speaking of which..theres 2 new 'forexman' post just appeared.. cant you just ban the email addresses that they use?
Groffy77
Do you have the security code enabled? That should keep out the bots, if not theres a modification that is more advanced and it replaces the security code.
Ehren
Yes, I have GD image validation on. I think they're manually registered, then automatically post.
Groffy77
Wow, what loser has time to do that? Whoever is spamming the site needs a life.
tomos
Is this place on e-mail validation too? Cause my site has email validation enabled, and most bots dont activate the accounts.

J J Williams
Spammers are people who have a grudge against the internet. They target: -Inactive Communities -Insecure areas such as shoutboxes (Which get exploited easily) -Communities with an unusual setup How to stop: - Validation (You've implemented/activated) - Limitations, such as 1 topic/post every x minutes (X being how long) - Find the bots root, sometimes they come from .ru domains and others Why: - It makes it better, so admins know they're validating people but it will slow down the process; unless you try programming an automated bot to search through for ones that are wrong - It makes it so the bot is delayed long enough for a report to be sent, without a major breakout - Using a wildcard before .ru etc.. will stop any bots under the a .ru email address
Ehren
Ok, I have slightly edited the registration form so people will have to input a code in order to register. It's just a custom profile field where by you have to input numbers and letters in a specific order to continue (not using GD images). Hopefully this will help stop the bots. Headshot
Invision Power Board 2.2 Updated CAPTCHA Due to the increasing rise of spam bots flooding forums that allow guest posting, and the increasing capabilities of scripts to bypass CAPTCHA protection by parsing the image for the registration code, our CAPTHA output has been updated to make it harder for scripts to read the CAPTCHA code IPB generates (when using GD2). Lets hope a 2.2 will be released soon official with no bugs Then you can turn on Captcha for everypost
