Eternal Posted February 12, 2010 at 12:22 AM Posted February 12, 2010 at 12:22 AM Just wondering when designing site navigation (wanting to add a bit of animation), would you recommend javascript or flash? I'd normally do flash, but realize not everyone likes to enable Flash.
Ehren Posted February 12, 2010 at 01:00 AM Posted February 12, 2010 at 01:00 AM Depends what sort of animation. Many animated effects can be easily achieved with jQuery (which is definitely much better compared to flash in my opinion). I'd go with javascript.
Eternal Posted February 12, 2010 at 03:34 AM Author Posted February 12, 2010 at 03:34 AM Is jQuery better then javascript? It would e similar to this type of animation (just highlighting buttons when hovering): http://bleachgaming.com/
Ehren Posted February 12, 2010 at 04:07 AM Posted February 12, 2010 at 04:07 AM jQuery is javascript. You can do hover effects like that just with css, so you don't need any jquery effects for that navigation.
Sebastien Penet Posted February 13, 2010 at 09:51 PM Posted February 13, 2010 at 09:51 PM Hum, I'd say you should avoid Flash as often as possible. As you may know, some mobile devices don't support it, mostly for performance reasons. However, most recent devices support javascript. For example, the iPhone/iPad aren't likely to support Flash in a near future. And there are more users than we imagine
Eternal Posted February 15, 2010 at 08:13 PM Author Posted February 15, 2010 at 08:13 PM While we're talking about navigation on my site... just wanted to see which type of table borders people preferred: or:
Ehren Posted February 15, 2010 at 11:19 PM Posted February 15, 2010 at 11:19 PM Don't like the angled one.. straight seems better to me.
Eternal Posted February 26, 2010 at 08:27 AM Author Posted February 26, 2010 at 08:27 AM Just wondering Ehren is something like this possible? It would have a scroll then for the rest of the way like this: http://dragonballzocg.com/beta/
Nervosa Posted February 27, 2010 at 10:23 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 10:23 PM Yes, its possible to design a layout like that. Also, Im not feeling that gray much, try pulling some colors from your background.

I did try colors from background, and it looks really bad, no one seemed to like it.
Simon Leufstedt Posted March 1, 2010 at 03:39 PM Posted March 1, 2010 at 03:39 PM That forum skin looks really nice and original. Maybe the forum is a bit too gray. But it could work, as its hard to tell from screenshots.
