With the Version 4 themes you had several options you could use to set image for Read and unread.

In the version 5 theme i don't see this.

In v5, you can upload custom icons (or choose icons/emoji) via the forum settings. 

If you’d like to set a universal fallback image, that just requires some CSS (which I can provide in the customer area if you need more guidance)
