Sneak peak: Background Picker

Recommended Posts

Following on from the previous sneak peak (Dark/light Mode toggle), here's another sneak peak to show off the new Background Picker in 4.5 themes!

The Background Picker has always been a popular feature among IPSFocus themes, and it has some new exciting features coming in the next batch of updates. One of the first things you may notice is the "Random" option in position #1. If selected, a random background image will be displayed on each page load - something which has been a fairly popular feature request over the past couple of years.

Another new feature is the addition of "Background names". This setting is optional and allows you to add a name to each of your thumbnails in the Background Picker. This feature is especially useful for gaming or sporting sites which offer different background images for different games and teams.

Each background comes with numerous settings in the ACP, allowing you to easily "Enable/Disable" the background, as well as customize its "Image", "Color", "Name", "background-size", "background-repeat", "background-position" and "background-attachment". Very flexible!

Many of you have requested a setting to "Restrict the Background Picker to certain groups". This setting is now available in 4.5! If the picker is disabled for guests, the Background Picker will be replaced with a message with links to either Login or Register - which is a great way to encourage your guests to register on your site.

There's also a new setting to change the Default background image (which is something that previously required a code change in 4.4).. And last but not least, the number of background options has been increased from 6 to 10!

If there are any additional features which you'd like to see included with the Background Picker in the 4.5 theme updates, make sure to post your ideas below! Be sure to check back in a few days time for another sneak peak! :)

Looking really good Ehren. Not sure if this has been covered but I' assuming this will still work for images that we have uploaded ourselves?

😁

Yep, the existing "upload image" feature is the same.

If you wanted to use an image which is already online, that's also very easy to do in the 4.5 themes :)

Could this be enhanced to groups as well? Option in ACP to select which groups can and cannot access it.
