Ehren Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Following the release of Invision Community 5 earlier this week, I'm very excited to announce that illuminate has been upgraded and is available now illuminate is a minimal, modern theme for Invision Community 5 and is compatible with both light and dark mode. A compact header neatly contains your logo, navigation, user panel and search bar - while your main content is placed on a simple background for easy reading. Categories can be styled with their own unique color scheme which is especially great for sports teams, brands, games or movies. illuminate for version 4 included "The Customizer", which allowed members to personally customize certain areas of the theme (such as the width or sidebar position). This feature has not yet been implemented into illuminate v5, however I do have plans to implement it in a future update once the code has been finalized (it's currently in an alpha stage on my local install). I'm interested in hearing your ideas on what Customizer settings should be added! Please note: Due to the overhauled Theme Editor and modernized code in Invision Community 5, all version 5 themes need to be created from scratch as there is no upgrade path for old themes. For this reason, the version 5 themes are not included for free as part of the 4.x subscriptions and will need to be repurchased. With that said, if you're an active illuminate customer, you'll receive an automatic $15 discount when purchasing the version 5 theme. The discount will be applied automatically once illuminate v5 has been added to your cart. For those interested, themes for Invision Community 4 are still available on this site and they will be supported/maintained for as long as customers are using them. And finally, to those upgrading to Invision Community 5, I look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions for future theme updates! 5
Freddie M Posted February 6 Posted February 6 You probably know, but the demo site only shows the default theme. It goes again what I said to you, but I was itching to see it. Funnily enough, I missed the post earlier.

loz Posted February 8 Posted February 8 <subliminal> Uniform </subliminal> @Ehren How are the new themes working with Community updates? Are they the same as before? Will any theme edits need to be added again every time?
Freddie M Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I don't want to be taken as I am being harsh, but I prefer Illuminate on v4. I had thought about buying the v4 version, but with v5 I thought it would be better to do so for when I am on it. I am trying to provide feedback; if it is taken, so be it, but I am not trying to offend. My issue is that it is very close to your work with the default theme. It might sound harsh, but the footer, for example, being increased would sway me to purchase it. You've done a nice job, and part of this is credit to the awesome work with the default themes. The social icons, advanced footer do such a great job with v4 these might be v5 limitations. Yet the light version doesn't appeal to me due to its closeness to the default skin; the dark skin, if I owned it, is what I would use. I just want to provide honest feedback; not every theme will be to my liking.
MythonPonty Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Thanks @Ehren Think a litle bit like @Freddie M but we don't forget that v4 was a long long growing product, but i think for the start of v5 it's a first mark and we'll go the next long way. So i'm exited that you make the first release. I have bought a license but will give you a short hint about missing features. Countdown - is very useful and a must have Holidays & Events - nice to have but very helpful Actually Most Paint Point -- the missing Mega Footer. That's one of our USP for your products and should be implemented Background Picker - ohhhh this i a must have for my community. Every user use different backgrounds.
Ehren Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 Thanks for the feedback so far! The themes will be updated over time with new features. In version 5, the mega footer is now redundant as widgets can be dragged into the footer (it’s actually a much more feature-rich version compared to the static footer in v4). The countdown feature is probably best handled via an addon moving forward. In v4, it relies on a jQuery plugin which is something I’d prefer to not be locked into, especially if v5 moves to vanilla JS in the future. The Customizer and Background Picker will be making a return, I just haven’t had a chance to polish it yet (and didn’t want to delay illuminate, or release it with a half finished version). 7 hours ago, loz said: How are the new themes working with Community updates? So once a theme is installed, it should be universally compatible with the entire 5.x series 2 2

300ZX Owners Club Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Is there a way to move the 'Light/dark mode' options in the footer to the header bar ?

300ZX Owners Club Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Seems to be stuck in the footer on mine even when logged in.
Freddie M Posted February 11 Posted February 11 5 hours ago, Ehren said: This already happens for logged-in members This is going to sound bad, but I actually think the toggle should also be like this in the default themes. I realise it sounds contradictory, but it's the perfect location to quickly toggle between themes. The footer is useful, but is out of the way in most cases. I should also say, I didn't sign in to the demo, and that could have been reflected in my feedback. What I wrote wasn't to criticise but to provide useful feedback. 1
Ehren Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Yeah I agree, I’ve got “add light/dark icon to userBar” on my todo list for a future Invision update 1
loz Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Sorry for the questions @Ehren but without using Illuminate and waiting in the wings for Uniform, will the new themes no longer require a separate light and dark pro theme? and now using the light/dark switch over as the default? 1
SC36DC Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Congrats on the first V5 release. I myself am anxiously awaiting the release of Chameleon with the background picker!! Looking forward to seeing many more V5 releases! Keep up the incredible work. 1

That's correct. Light and dark mode are built into single themes in v5. You can restrict your site to a single colour scheme if you wish, but offering both is a nice, user-friendly feature. There's also a "System" option which adheres to your operating system choice. 2 1
300ZX Owners Club Posted February 12 Posted February 12 i love the system 'choice', my phone automatically swaps to dark mode at night now. 2
laracroftonline Posted February 17 Posted February 17 hoping uniform, and dimension will be released too for v5. 1
SC36DC Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Ever since Illuminate came out, I've been coming here checking every day for Chameleon. For those that regard the 'Background Picker' as a MUST HAVE feature for your forum, the Chameleon theme is the best option, mainly because, Quote Semi-transparent, frosted-glass content boxes place focus on your background image.
Ehren Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 Just confirming that theme upgrades will be coming at some stage for other themes. I'm working on them between implementing feedback for v5, and hope to have them released in the not too distant future. Thank you all for being patient so far! 5

Every morning and evening to check if Uniform is out! Ehren did a great job with the default theme for 5, but you can't beat a good custom theme to make it more unique to your forum! 3 1
